Message from Carly Duncan, Daughter of Sergeant Charles Duncan
Personally, having diabetes since I was only 20 months old, you can say I don’t remember what life was like without it. It’s a difficult thing to conquer but with love and support from everyone around you it really makes it a little bit better. I have had support from both of my parents throughout these bumpy 17 years and I couldn’t have done any of it without them. But my dad had the biggest impact on my life.
My dad was there for me through every rough patch, through every shot and through every finger prick I had to do. He was also there for the diabetic community as a whole. Not only did he want to help me manage my life with Type 1 Diabetes, he was compelled to help everyone out there like me.
I have been involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) diabetes walk for as long as I can remember. My dad was the chairperson for the walk for over a decade and the support is tremendous. There is nothing I could do to fully repay him for what he has done for me.
Being involved with JDRF has been so amazing. This organization is truly trying to put an end to this disease. The research they have been pursuing is beyond what people have thought would have been possible. I believe JDRF will be the reason we someday find a cure for type 1 diabetes. They will turn type one into type none, and I am honored to be a part of that. I am blessed to call my biggest supporter my dad, Chuck Duncan.
I am so proud that my dad is being celebrated with the inaugural Charles Duncan Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hope Promise Dream Ball for his work with JDRF – Since 2003 he has helped raise over $800,000 towards the mission. By donating in his honor, your generosity will go directly towards Type 1 Diabetes research at the Ball on May 20th, 2017. All dollars raised will be presented during the Fund A Cure portion of the evening.
Thank you for your support and for helping me to honor my dad!
